1. COURSE OVERVIEW

The Back-End Web Developer training programme prepares learners to create the server-side functions that make a website dynamic and interactive.

Learners work progressively on a real client project using PHP, MySQL and professional development tools, with guided classes, practical assignments, professional immersion, project presentation and final assessment.

3. OBJECTIVE

By the end of the training, the learner should be able to create a database-driven Back-End, process forms, perform CRUD operations, manage user access and connect the Front-End interface to a functional database.

4. PRACTICAL CLASS 1 – PHP & SERVER-SIDE LOGIC

• Understand the role of the Back-End and how the client-server model works
• Install and configure XAMPP or Laragon
• Create and run PHP files locally
• Variables, conditions, loops, functions and arrays
• Receive and process data from HTML forms
• Validate and secure basic user input

Practical Assignment: Create the first server-side functionality required for the real client project and submit it online.

5. PRACTICAL CLASS 2 – MYSQL DATABASES & CRUD

• Understand relational databases and data organisation
• Create and manage a MySQL database with phpMyAdmin
• Create tables, fields, primary keys and relationships
• Connect PHP to MySQL using PDO
• Create, read, update and delete data (CRUD)
• Display database content dynamically on a web page

Practical Assignment: Build the database and CRUD functions required for the client project, then apply instructor feedback and corrections.

6. PRACTICAL CLASS 3 – AUTHENTICATION, STRUCTURE & INTEGRATION

• Create login and logout functions
• Protect pages and manage user sessions
• Hash and verify passwords
• Organise Back-End files using a simple MVC structure
• Connect Front-End pages to Back-End functions and the database
• Test, debug and version the project with Git/GitLab
• Prepare the advanced version of the client project for deployment

Practical Assignment: Integrate authentication and protected functions into the client project and prepare a complete intermediate version.

7. PROFESSIONAL IMMERSION

The learner works in a real professional environment and takes part in:

• Reading and understanding an existing Back-End project
• Connecting forms to a database
• Correcting or adding simple PHP/MySQL functions
• Testing and debugging web functionalities
• Updating database content or administration interfaces
• Following technical instructions, deadlines and professional work methods

8. PROFESSIONAL PROJECT & CLIENT PRESENTATION

• Finalise the database and Back-End functionalities
• Verify forms, CRUD operations, authentication and protected areas
• Test the connection between Front-End, Back-End and database
• Correct errors and improve reliability
• Prepare the project for deployment
• Present the functional project to the client or supervisor
• Collect feedback and complete the requested corrections

9. ASSESSMENT & VALIDATION

• Practical assessment of PHP and MySQL skills
• Database connection and CRUD verification
• Authentication and access-control verification
• Testing and debugging of the final application
• Presentation and submission of the completed client project

10. PRACTICAL ASSIGNMENTS BETWEEN CLASSES

The assignments are directly linked to the real project to be delivered to the client. During the week, the learner develops the required Back-End functions, submits the work online, receives instructor feedback and completes corrections before the next class.

11. FINAL PROJECT

By the end of the programme, each learner must have completed a functional Back-End connected to a database, including forms, CRUD operations, user authentication and protected areas, integrated into a real client web project.
